Coastal Bend LNG is lining up its ducks for its future low carbon intensity LNG facility!

Happy Thursday!

Did anyone happen to read the Oil & Gas Journal’s Transportation Report Newsletter on August 27, 2025, their article titled, “Coastal Band LNG initiates FEED study for EMAR-based CO2 capture at Texas plant”?  In the article, it speaks on how Coastal Bend LNG has started a front-end engineering and design (FEED) study to access how applying electrochemically mediated amine regeneration (EMAR) technology for carbon capture may help with their future low intensity LNG plant in the Corpus Christi region.  Coastal Bend LNG has teamed up with Solvanic to see if their innovative electrochemical carbon capture technology which uses electricity is a good fit for them to capture their CO2 emissions as a way to boost efficiency and reduce emissions.  Coastal Bend LNG is purposing to capture their CO2 from their natural gas pretreatment and cogeneration units at their future LNG plant along the Gulf Coast.  On another note, the article mentions Coastal Bend LNG has chosen their lead environmental consultants, EXP.  Coastal Bend LNG anticipates they will pre-file for authorizations with the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission this year.  We wish them luck with their vision for a cleaner LNG facility along the Gulf Coast!   If you would like to read more of Oil and Gas Journal’s article, please click the link:   Coastal Bend LNG begins carbon capture FEED study for proposed Texas Gulf Coast plant | Oil & Gas Journal.

NSMV III ‘State of Maine’ is blessed and ready for her maiden voyage!

Happy Wednesday!

We love to write about things which connect to our previous blogs, and U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration’s (MURAD) National Security Multi-Mission Vessel (NSMV) Program had its second ship return from its maiden voyage and back to its new home last October, please check out our Blog for details.  We wrote on our own Texas A&M University (TAMU) – Galveston Maritime Academy NSMV training ship, TS Lone Star State, and the progress it has made on its way to the Lone Star state; please check out of blog in December 2023, for details. Well, MURAD has another NSMV ship in its arsenal!

Did anyone happen to read gCaptain Daily Newsletter on August 27, 2025, their article titled, “Maine Maritime Academy’s New Training Ship Vessel Christened at Hanwha Philly Shipyard”?  The article speaks in regard to the U.S.’s third NSMV called NSMV III ‘State of Maine’ has had its christening and blessing ceremony yesterday at Hanwha Philly Shipyard in Pennsylvania.  ‘State of Maine’ is destined for the Maine Maritime Academy where future mariners will have hands-on training as well as the opportunity to get qualified for their unlimited tonnage license.  The ‘State of Maine’ is going to have a new and improved wharf which will give the ship more than 1,100 linear feet of space, and the improvements should be completed next summer.

MURAD invested $350 million for the NSMV III “State of Maine” this 525-foot multiuse vessel is part of MURAD’s NSMV Program which America invested in to help support its future blue economy and its future mariners.  The NSMV Program is a partnership between public and private sectors to make multi-use vessels which may be used to educate future mariners as well as aid the public in times of need.  All five NSMVs are or will be modern innovative training vessels, which were designed with cadets in mind, so they will have spaces for classrooms, a complete bridge and room for approximately 600 cadets for their schooling at sea.  The ship in addition will have a hospital, helicopter pad, and the ship will be able to help 1,000 people when duty calls in times of distress.  Another feature of the ship is it is capable of rolling supplies or containers on and off quickly.  The Massachusetts Maritime Academy received the second NSMV II’ Patriot State’ last fall, and the first NSMV was the ‘Empire State VII’ which calls SUNY Maritime College at the State University of New York home.  These vessels are the beginning of America’s desire to resume its place as a leader in maritime power.  The NSMV Program has two more innovative ships to complete for maritime academies in Texas and California.  We wish the ‘State of Maine’ a long successful life training our future mariners and helping those in need.  “Bon voyage! Here’s to smooth sailing and adventures new!”  If you would like to read more of gCaptain’s article, please click the link: Maine Maritime Academy's New Federal Training Vessel Christened at Hanwha Philly Shipyard.

Northern Lights JV reached a milestone with completion of Phase 1 by its first customer’s CO2 traveling down the well in the North Sea!

Happy Wednesday!

Did anyone happen to read the Oil & Gas Journal’s OGJ Daily Update Newsletter on August 25, 2025, their article titled, “Northern Lights achieves first injection, storage of CO2 volumes in North Sea”?  In the article, it speaks on Northern Lights Joint Venture has accomplished a milestone by completing its first phase by injecting liquified carbon dioxide (CO2) into the floor of the North Sea and officially becoming a green infrastructure developer.  Equinor, Shell PLC and TotalEnergies combined their efforts and established Northern Lights Joint Venture with Equinor as their Technical Service Provider and in charge of the facilities and infrastructure.  This green infrastructure developer has started to inject CO2 into a basin which is 2600m beneath the North Sea and around 62 miles offshore Western Norway.  The Northern Light JV collects the CO2 and transports it in a 130-m-longship liquified-carbon (L-C) carrier which was conceived by Shell, and they have two ships named “Northern Pathfinder” and “Northern Pioneer.”  The L-C carrier can hold up to 7,500 cubic meters of liquified CO2 which collects the CO2 from industrial sites currently in Norway.  Once the ship has reached its terminal in Øygarden, Norway it then unloads the CO2 which then travels through a pipeline and is inserted into the Aurora reservoir beneath the North Sea.  It is anticipated the Aurora Reservoir will be able to hold 1.5 million tons per year of liquefied CO2.  In the Spring, Northern Lights JV made their final investment decision on Phase 2, and they are moving forward with project with completion expected in three-year timeframe.   We wish them luck!   If you would like to read more of Oil and Gas Journal’s article, please click the link:   Northern Lights achieves first injection, storage of CO2 volumes in North Sea | Oil & Gas Journal.

U.S. DOE has announced approval of another extension for a LNG facility in Louisiana!

Happy Friday!

Well, the DOE has been working hard the last few months getting more LNG projects hand stamped as well as getting offshore oil and gas lease sales dates on the calendar.  They have been trying to get the red tape out of the way, so America may accelerate the reliable energy build out.  Well, we have another LNG project getting an extension.

Did anyone happen to read the DOE’s Fossil Energy and Carbon Management Newsletter on May 19, 2025, their announcement for, “DOE Grants Lake Charles LNG Additional Time to Commence Exports”?  In the article, it goes on to speak on how the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has approved an extension of time for Energy Transfer’s Lake Charles LNG Export Company, LLC’s export plant in Louisiana.  This extension will allow the facility time to commission so it may sell to non-free trade agreement countries.  The plant was originally designed to be an import facility therefore the company needs time to redesign the facility to export as well as make their final investment decision according to ET’s website.  It is noted in the news release Lake Charles LNG is expected to be able to ship up to 2.33 billion cubic feet per day on LNG once in fully commissioned.  If you would like to read more of the Announcement from the U.S. DOE, please click the link: DOE Grants Lake Charles LNG Additional Time to Commence Exports | Department of Energy.

Modern Hydrogen is teaming up with a Texas city’s municipal utility!

Happy Thursday!

CPS Energy has been in the news quite a bit lately!  They were in the news for expanding transmission lines, accepting bids for expanding their wind power, and now they’re becoming blue or should we say using blue hydrogen.  Let’s see how blue hydrogen fits into this company’s goal of reducing their carbon footprint.

Did anyone happen to read The Houston Chronicle’s Fuel Fix Newsletter on August 18, 2025, they had an article titled, “CPS Energy teams up with Seatle firm on clean hydrogen pilot project”?  In the article, it speaks on how CPS Energy (City of San Antonio’s utility company) has paired up with Modern Hydrogen to bring an innovative hydrogen demonstration to the San Antonio power grid.   Modern Hydrogen has a process which is in line with the CPS Energy’s goal to reduce their emissions.  Modern Hydrogen has a machine called MH500 which separates natural gas into carbon dioxide which will then go on to become a solid and blue hydrogen which then may be mixed with natural gas or be used alone to make energy.   CPS is expecting to have MH500 unit setup at one of CPS current properties in the next year and a half to three years after the site is vetted and their task list is completed and the process fits all their conditions as a deliverable. With Modern Hydrogen’s innovative technology, the utility is expecting to use the solid carbon waste to make into Modern Asphalt which will then be laid on city streets.  Their relationship is expected to last at the minimum of six years with four years of live deployment.  Modern Hydrogen has teamed up with several utilities including NextEra Energy.  We wish them luck getting this ambitious project off the ground!  If you would like to read more of the article from The Houston Chronicle, please click the link: CPS Energy teams up with Seattle firm on clean hydrogen project.

DOE has selected 10 new ventures for their Reactor Pilot Program!

Happy Wednesday!

By now you probably realize we like energy as well as tie-ins to our previous blogs.  We blogged about nuclear energy starting to catch on in Texas back last November and we had an update in May with our Texas Legislature adding to its agenda discussions on nuclear energy.  In the same Blog, we updated you on the buzz of a nuclear project at Abilene Christian University (ACU) and their secondary joint project with Texas Tech University (TTU), and Texas Produced Water Consortium using nuclear energy to power TTU’s produced water desalination system project. We blogged on how Texas A&M had chosen some projects for their Rellis Campus, and well as applied for licensing from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for the site.  Several of these companies have projects here in Texas as we have mentioned in previous blogs!  Well, America is getting real on nuclear energy with the current administration throwing some support their way.

Did anyone happen to read EnergyTech’s Transition Newsletter on August 18, 2025, their article titled, “DOE Names 10 Companies to Fast-Track Small Modular Reactors by 2026”?  In the article, it speaks on how the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) “Reactor Pilot Program” have selected ten nuclear energy new ventures to help them fast track permitting and other governmental assistance for their small modular reactors (SMR) and other innovative reactor ventures as well as helping them by placing their support behind them to help them unlock private money.  In addition to helping the projects move their projects along the governmental gauntlet, the start-ups will in turn will have their projects self-sustaining or at least three of them by Independence Day of next year.  The projects will have the burden of covering all their expenses associated with their projects including but not limited to installation and building their projects to taking them down and disposing of their trial model.  The new ventures who were chosen include: Aalo Atomics, Antares Nuclear Inc., Atomic Alchemy Inc., Deep Fission Inc., Last Energy Inc., Oklo Inc. (2 projects chosen), Natura Resources LLC, Radiant Industries Inc., Terrestrial Energy Inc., and Valar Atomics Inc. These recipients do not have a lot of time nonetheless they have the faith of the DOE behind them!

The DOE is hoping these companies will show how with an innovation one may bring commercial scale nuclear energy projects within reasonable budgets and timelines unlike past nuclear energy projects.  Earlier this year the current administration called for modernizing current nuclear policy to improve timelines for permitting and licensing.  We wish all these new ventures luck bringing their innovations to the light or should we say turning on the light! If you would like to read more of the article from EnergyTech, please click the link: DOE Names 10 Companies to Fast-Track Small Modular Reactors by 2026 | EnergyTech.

BOEM has released a biannual leasing schedule for offshore oil and gas sales in the Gulf of America, beginning in March 2026!

Happy Tuesday

We have a follow-up to a Department of Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s (BOEM) and the Gulf of America (Mexico) Oil and Gas Lease Sale 262 now called GOA Lease Sale Big Beautiful Gulf 1 or BBG1 for short has a date in 2025 as well as they developed a schedule for the next thirteen years. (Check out our Blog in early July for details on BBG1.)  It’s finally here!

Did anyone happen to receive the News Release from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) on August 19, 2025, their News Release titled, “Interior Department Sets Offshore Energy Leasing Schedule Under One Big Beautiful Bill Act”?  In the release, it speaks on how Department of Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) under the direction of One Big Beautiful Bill Act (BBBA) (H.R.1) has developed a leasing schedule for two offshore locations.  BBBA requires at least 30 offshore oil and gas lease sales in the Gulf of America (Mexico) (GoA) prior to 2040 and at least 6 in Cook Inlet, Alaska prior to 2032, and today the schedule was released.  The BOEM will hold the first offshore oil and gas sale for the GoA on December 10, 2025, and it will be announced at a minimum 30 days prior to the event.  The GoA will have offshore lease sales every March and August from 2026 through 2039 and one in March of 2040.  There will be six offshore lease sales in Cook Inlet every March starting in 2026 through 2032, skipping 2029.  The consistency of the schedule is to help stakeholders plan ahead, and for the BOEM to be able to complete all reviews in a timely manner for the sales.  This schedule will help all those involved be better prepared and hopefully have more participation in the offshore oil and gas lease sales.  We let you know, if we hear anything else from the BOEM.  If you would like to read more of the BOEM’s News Release, please click the link: Interior Department Sets Offshore Energy Leasing Schedule Under One Big Beautiful Bill Act  | U.S. Department of the Interior.

Venture Global has plans to expand and develop more of their LNG facilities!

Happy Monday!  Welcome back to another week of ESC News Blog!

We hope everyone had a little fun and relaxation time over the weekend!  Let’s get started!

You know we love a follow-up, and we blogged on Venture Global LNG Inc. earlier in August on how they have received approval from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to export an additional 200 billion cubic feet of LNG to Non-FTA countries from their Calcasieu Pass LNG Plant.

Did anyone happen to read the gCaptain Shipping Newsletter on August 18, 2025, the have a reprinted article for Reuters titled, “Venture Global Eyes More After Shell Arbitration Victory”?  In the article, it spoke on how after Venture Global’s favorable outcome to legal proceedings have made them hopeful several other cases against them will have the same positive outcome.  In the article, it’s noted that Venture Global expects to expand their capacity in the next few years, positioning them to become the leading LNG exporter in the country, with plans to deliver more than 100 million metric tons of LNG by the end of the decade.  In Venture Global’s future strategy involves them continuing building the next phase of their CP2 facility in Louisiana, whose project costs have increased due to outside influences including tariffs, price increases from supply and wage expenses, as well as other circumstances; now the project may cost upward to $29 billion.  In addition, they are expected to construct a 10 mtpa CP3 facility.   Venture Global intends to have a Phase 2 added to their Plaquemines facility in Louisiana in the future, too.  Venture Global is getting American LNG out to the world and their expansion will help get even more!  We wish them continued luck and success with their expansion!  If you would like to read more of the gCaptain’s article, please click the link:   Venture Global Eyes More Wins After Shell Arbitration Victory.

The Lesser Prairie Chicken won’t be getting in the way in Texas and other oil and gas producing states!

Happy Thursday!

We love an update!  In early April 2023, we blogged on how there was a legal battle in Texas over the lesser prairie chicken being moved again to the endangered species list.  This wasn’t the first time the lesser prairie chicken was a cause of a legal battle back in 2014, the last time it was moved to the list many of the same players challenged it including the State of Texas and they were able to remove the populations from the list.  Well, the final results are in!

Did anyone happen to read the Oil & Gas Journal’s OGJ Daily Update Newsletter on August 14, 2025, their article titled, “Federal court ends protections for the lesser prairie chicken”?  In the article, it speaks on how a U.S District Judge for the Western District of Texas ruled in favor of the plaintiffs by removing the lesser prairie chickens from the endangered and threatened species list as well as remove their protections from the Endangered Species Act (ESA).  The federal judge’s decision ruled the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) misapplied the ESA to the lesser prairie chicken’s northern (threatened) and southern (endangered) populations and therefore the listings should be removed and protections lifted.   In addition, earlier this year the current administration’s FWS reapplied the Discrete Population Segment (DPS) policy and did not find the designation was warranted or justified.  Well, this ends the saga of the lesser prairie chickens’ northern and southern populations, at least for now and the oil and gas industry may go back to business as usual where these birds live.  If you would like to read more of Oil and Gas Journal’s article, please click the link:   Federal court ends protections for lesser prairie chicken | Oil & Gas Journal.

The Panama Canal Authority has clarified more of their capital investment budget plans which may include innovative bicoastal ports to compete with other ports in the region!

Happy Wednesday!

Well, you know we love an update and in 2024 the Panama Canal Authority announced they were planning on spending $8.5 billion for their capital investment budget over five years to aid in their net-zero goals and help with the sustainability of this important waterway.  (Please see our Blog at end of February 2024, for details.)  Around a year later they found their first step which was a plan for keeping the country’s population and the waterway drought resistant with a reservoir to be named Rio Indio Reservoir.  Well, they have another step for their capital investment plan.

Did anyone happen to read gCaptain Daily Newsletter on August 13, 2025, they reprinted an article from Bloomberg titled, “Panama Canal to Enter Port Business With Dual-Terminal Tender”?  The article speaks in regard to the Panama Canal Authority’s recent announcement where they are planning to own terminals on each coast nonetheless the actual running of the terminal will by a third-party, and in the future, they will be launching a competitive bidding process to find the best operator for the projects.  In addition, they will have a liquified petroleum gas pipeline at each terminal, and innovative crane technology.  Both of these objectives are part of the Panama Canal Authority’s capital investment budget plan which has been extended to go over seven years.  The budget will include work on logistic pathways and a water reservoir.  The Panama Canal Authority’s plan is in line with Panamanian government’s incoming national maritime logistics strategy.  The Panama Canal has had an influx of funding from shippers importing to the United States trying to get goods into the U.S. prior to higher tariffs which will help fund the plan.  On another note, Panama has had a good year of rain which has helped with the increased transits on the canal.  We wish the Panama Canal Authority luck with fulfilling their goals for the canal.  If you would like to read more of gCaptain’s article, please click the link: Panama Canal to Enter Port Business With Dual-Terminal Tender.

EPD is using some of their 2025 and 2026 capex budget to expand their footprint in the Midland Basin region.

Happy Tuesday!

Did anyone happen to read The Houston Chronicle’s Fuel Fix Newsletter on August 11, 2025, they republished an article from Midland Reporter-Telegram titled, “Enterprise buys Oxy’s Midland Basin gas assets, plan new plant”?  In the article, it speaks on how a subsidiary of Enterprise Products Partners L.P. (EPD) picked up natural gas gathering assets from a subsidiary of Occidental Petroleum’s (Oxy) in the Midland Basin for $580 million cash only deal, and included in the deal they will be providing long-term natural gas gathering and processing services to Oxy.  In addition, Enterprise will be getting around 200 miles of natural gas gathering pipeline which moves unprocessed natural gas from production in the Midland Basin to a natural gas gathering facility.  In addition, they will be getting around 73,000 acres which extends into four counties in the Midland Basin.  We wish them luck acquiring speedy approvals for their purchase!

In the same article, Enterprise published they will build another natural gas processing plant which they plan to name Athena in Midland County; it will be there ninth in the area.   The Athena facility in expected to be able to process up to 300 million cubic feet of natural gas a day and separate out around 40,000 barrels a day of natural gas liquids (NGL).  The plant is expected to be commissioned by end of 2026.  The purchase from Oxy and the plans to build the Athena facility fall in line with Enterprise’s capex goals for this year and next.  We wish them luck getting the new plant in service!  If you would like to read more of the article reprinted from Midland Reporter-Telegram on MSN, please click the link: Enterprise buys Oxy’s Midland Basin gas assets, plans new plant.

Glenfarne’s Texas LNG facility is one step closer to its FERC certificate!

Happy Monday!  Welcome back to another week of ESC News Blog!

We love a follow-up and well this fits the bill.  We blogged approximately a year ago on Glenfarne’s Texas LNG losing their FERC certification, when a federal appellate court decided the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was incomplete into the effects of the LNG plant will have on the communities surrounding it in regard to pollution and the quality of life.  Then, last September we blogged FERC saying the final supplemental report would take 14 to 15 months.   Well, we finally have the final report.

Did anyone happen to read Storage Terminals Magazine’s Weekly Newsletter on August 11, 2025, their article titled, “Glenfarne’s Texas LNG advances with FERC final supplemental environmental report”?   In the article, it speaks on how the U.S. Federal Regulatory Commission (FERC) published its final supplemental environmental impact statement (EIS) for Texas LNG, who is being built at the Port of Brownsville.   Glenfarne’s Texas LNG is one step closer to attaining their FERC certificate which is expected to be delivered in November.   Glenfarne’s Texas LNG will be one of the greenest LNG facilities due to it will be using electric motor drives to run the site.  Glenfarne is expecting to a make final investment decision later this year for Texas LNG.  Glenfarne’s Texas LNG have decided on Kiewit as its contractor to go from design to completion of the project.  If we hear anything else on Texas LNG on its permits and certifications, we will let you know!  We wish Glenfarne luck getting their ducks in a row!  If you would like to read more of Storage Terminals Magazine’s Weekly Newsletter’s article, please click the link: Glenfarne’s Texas LNG advances with FERC final supplemental environmental report.

The SS United States has started disassembly and, in its future, it will become one of the largest artificial reefs.

Happy Thursday!

We read an update to a Blog we wrote on back mid-November 2024 on the SS United States.  Here’s an update on this iconic ship’s journey to become an artificial reef.

Did anyone happen to read Chron First Draft Newsletter on August 7, 2025, their article titled, “Gulf Coast artificial reef to be constructed out of historic ocean liner – The SS United States set a transatlantic speed record on its maiden voyage”?  The article speaks in regard to the status of the iconic SS United States and where’s its at in its journey to become an artificial reef.  The SS United States was bought for $10 million back last fall and has made the long journey from South Philadelphia to Mobile, Alabama being towed where it has started being disassembled.  The shipyard has taken off one of its twin 65-foot funnels, us lay people would call them smokestacks, in preparations for the ship to become an artificial reef.  Next, the shipyard will remove the other, and then the radar mast and king posts, then it will be ready for the next stage of its life as an artificial reef off the coast of Florida’s panhandle.  The removed pieces the SS United States Conservancy will hopefully use in a museum in the Florida Panhandle.

The article gave us a bit more history on the iconic ship.  The SS United States was engineered by William Francs Gibbs, a naval architect, and his design went on to be a world record holder.  The SS United States had a colorful history by being the record holder for the transatlantic speed record, as well as having moved presidents, famous people, and incoming settlers to their new home.  As famous as this ship became its demise was faster and by the end of the 60s it was mothballed to a southern Virginia boatyard and eventually it ended up at the South Philly docks.  This memorable ship deserves a place everyone can visit, so it's becoming an artificial reef and museum seems a good decision.  We wish the SS United States has a speedy placement into its new underwater home, and hope it is well explored by Gulf of America’s (Mexico) fish and divers.  If we hear any other news on the iconic ship, we will pass it along!  If you would like to read more of Houston Chronicle’s article on MSN article, please click the link: Gulf Coast artificial reef to be constructed out of historic ocean liner.

NRG Energy is building a new natural gas power plant to power ERCOT’s Houston Load Zone expected to be online next summer.

Happy Wednesday!

Did anyone happen to read The Houston Chronicle’s The 713 Morning Newsletter on August 5, 2025, their article titled, “Houston to get new NRG Energy gas power plant with $216M Texas Energy Fund loan”?  In the article, it goes on to speak on how yesterday it was announced the Houston area will be adding power to its grid from a new NRG Energy Inc.’s natural gas power plant being constructed at their TH Wharton Generating Station complex with help from the Texas Energy Fund.  The Texas Energy Fund has approved advancing NRG Energy up to $216 million at 3% interest to be paid back within twenty years.  NRG Energy is awaiting to hear if two more of its applications for loans from the Texas Energy Fund for their Cedar Bayou and Green Bayou power plants will be approved, if we hear anything on them, we will pass it along.  We wish NRG Energy luck with their other Texas Energy Fund applications and getting these power plants online!  If you would like to read more of the Houston Chronicle’s article on MSN, please click the link: NRG Energy brings new gas power plant to Houston with $216 million embattled Texas Energy Fund loan.

U.S. BOEM is making changes for scheduling of Offshore Renewable Energy Lease Sales.

Happy Tuesday!

We try to stay on top of the happenings in the energy industry and this News Release from Department of Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s (BOEM) cast a gloomy outlook on the budding offshore wind industry with their removal of at least temporarily of assigned Wind Energy Areas WEA on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) as well as they will be reviewing current government leasing and permitting practices according to a release last week.   The BOEM has more changes coming.

Did anyone happen to receive the News Release from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) on August 4, 2025, their news release titled, “Note to Stakeholders - BOEM Rescinds Offshore Renewable Energy Leasing Schedule?  In the news release, it speaks about the U.S. Department of Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s (BOEM) released on August 4, 2025, they will be withdrawing required current wind or renewables lease schedules; 30 C.F.R. § 585.150.  The current code requires renewable/wind lease sales for a five-year timeline to be held at least every 2 years.  The BOEM found the stipulation in not supported by the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, the Secretary of Interior will be able to schedule renewable lease sales as needed by changes in innovation and interest.  The Federal Register published the change on August 5, 2025, if you would like to make a comment to this change, please see the link.  Well, this change may be a blessing if it makes the schedule more fluid, nonetheless it may also mean they won’t have any during the current administration’s term only time will tell.  If we hear anything else interesting from the BOEM, we will let you know.  If you would like to read more of the BOEM’s News Release, please click the link: BOEM Rescinds Offshore Renewable Energy Leasing Schedule | Bureau of Ocean EnergyManagement.

Happy Monday!  Welcome back to another week of ESC News Blog!

We hope everyone had a little fun and relaxation time over the weekend!  Let’s get started!

You know we love a follow-up, and we blogged on Venture Global LNG Inc. in mid-April on how they have finally begun commercial operations at their Calcasieu Pass LNG Plant after three years of hiccups with their power island and other problems.  Well, they received some good news today!

Did anyone happen to read the DOE’s Fossil Energy and Carbon Management News Release on August 4, 2025, their announcement for, “DOE ISSUES FINAL NON-FTA LNG EXPORT AUTHORIZATION FOR ADDITIONAL EXPORTS FROM THE VENTURE GLOBAL CALCASIEU PASS PROJECT”?  In the article, it goes on to speak on the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has completed its review of Venture Global’s application to export an additional 20 billion cubic feet of LNG to non-free trade agreement countries (non-FTA) and has approved the application.  The Secretary of Energy approved the application which aligned with American’s strive for energy dominance, and it’s finalized 2024 LNG export study (check out our Blog in May).  It will be interesting to see what else Venture Global’s LNG export facilities accomplish!  If you would like to read more of the Announcement from the U.S. DOE, please click the link: DOE Issues Final Non-FTA LNG Export Authorization for Additional Exports From the Venture Global Calcasieu Pass Project | Department of Energy.
