Happy Thursday!
CPS Energy has been in the news quite
a bit lately! They were in the news for
expanding transmission lines, accepting bids for expanding their wind power,
and now they’re becoming blue or should we say using blue hydrogen. Let’s see how blue hydrogen fits into this company’s
goal of reducing their carbon footprint.
Did anyone happen to read The
Houston Chronicle’s Fuel Fix Newsletter on August 18, 2025, they had an article
titled, “CPS Energy teams up with Seatle firm on clean hydrogen pilot project”? In the article, it speaks on how CPS Energy (City
of San Antonio’s utility company) has paired up with Modern Hydrogen to bring an innovative hydrogen
demonstration to the San Antonio power grid.
Modern Hydrogen has a process which is in line with the CPS
Energy’s goal to reduce their emissions.
Modern Hydrogen has a machine called MH500 which separates natural
gas into carbon dioxide which will then go on to become a solid and blue hydrogen
which then may be mixed with natural gas or be used alone to make energy. CPS is expecting to have MH500 unit setup at
one of CPS current properties in the next year and a half to three years after
the site is vetted and their task list is completed and the process fits all
their conditions as a deliverable. With Modern Hydrogen’s innovative technology,
the utility is expecting to use the solid carbon waste to make into Modern Asphalt
which will then be laid on city streets. Their relationship is expected to last at the
minimum of six years with four years of live deployment. Modern Hydrogen has teamed up with several
utilities including NextEra Energy. We
wish them luck getting this ambitious project off the ground! If you would like to read more of the article
