BOEM has completed the Final FEIS for the Gulf of America Outer Continental Shelf!

Happy Monday!  Welcome back to another week of ESC News Blog!   Let’s get started.

We have an update to the latest announcement from Department of Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s (BOEM) and Gulf of America (Mexico) and their regularly scheduled Oil and Gas Lease Sales.  The BOEM has completed its Final Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement.

Did anyone happen to receive the News Release from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) on August 22, 2025, their News Release titled, “BOEM Finalizes Environmental Review for Gulf of America Offshore Energy Development”?    In the release, it speaks on how Department of Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) under the direction of One Big Beautiful Bill Act (BBBA) (H.R.1) has developed a leasing schedule for the Gulf of America (Mexico) well the BOEM has added to their ducks in a row for future oil and gas lease sales; they have completed their Final Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the Outer Continental Shelffor the Gulf of America.  In the FEIS, the area covers is the western, central, and eastern planning regions of the Gulf of America Outer Continental Shelf and its post lease location.  In addition, the FEIS has opened the door for future oil and gas lease sales in these areas, they have taken in consideration recent lawsuits over retiring offshore drilling locations and have addressed previous concerns, and this FEIS will be the basis for more detailed analysis of each individual lease sale location to help streamline approvals.   The BOEM will issue the FEIS for the Gulf of America on August 29, 2025, in the Federal Register.  We let you know, if we hear anything else from the BOEM.  If you would like to read more of the BOEM’s News Release, please click the link: BOEM Finalizes Environmental Review for Gulf of America Offshore Energy Development| Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.
