BOEM has released a biannual leasing schedule for offshore oil and gas sales in the Gulf of America, beginning in March 2026!

Happy Tuesday

We have a follow-up to a Department of Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s (BOEM) and the Gulf of America (Mexico) Oil and Gas Lease Sale 262 now called GOA Lease Sale Big Beautiful Gulf 1 or BBG1 for short has a date in 2025 as well as they developed a schedule for the next thirteen years. (Check out our Blog in early July for details on BBG1.)  It’s finally here!

Did anyone happen to receive the News Release from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) on August 19, 2025, their News Release titled, “Interior Department Sets Offshore Energy Leasing Schedule Under One Big Beautiful Bill Act”?  In the release, it speaks on how Department of Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) under the direction of One Big Beautiful Bill Act (BBBA) (H.R.1) has developed a leasing schedule for two offshore locations.  BBBA requires at least 30 offshore oil and gas lease sales in the Gulf of America (Mexico) (GoA) prior to 2040 and at least 6 in Cook Inlet, Alaska prior to 2032, and today the schedule was released.  The BOEM will hold the first offshore oil and gas sale for the GoA on December 10, 2025, and it will be announced at a minimum 30 days prior to the event.  The GoA will have offshore lease sales every March and August from 2026 through 2039 and one in March of 2040.  There will be six offshore lease sales in Cook Inlet every March starting in 2026 through 2032, skipping 2029.  The consistency of the schedule is to help stakeholders plan ahead, and for the BOEM to be able to complete all reviews in a timely manner for the sales.  This schedule will help all those involved be better prepared and hopefully have more participation in the offshore oil and gas lease sales.  We let you know, if we hear anything else from the BOEM.  If you would like to read more of the BOEM’s News Release, please click the link: Interior Department Sets Offshore Energy Leasing Schedule Under One Big Beautiful Bill Act  | U.S. Department of the Interior.
