The federal advisory committee NCC is back in business with new leadership and their first meeting behind them.

Happy Monday!  Welcome to another week of ESC News Blog!

Did anyone happen to read the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hydrocarbon and Geothermal Energy Office Release on January 15, 2026, their announcement, “Energy Department Convenes First National Coal Council Meeting Under Renewed Charter, Reaffirming Coal’s Role in Unleashing American Energy”?  In the announcement, it goes on to speak on how the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has restored the National Coal Council’s (NCC) charter and the NCC has had their first meeting.  The NCC is a federal advisory committee made up of field workers, government and industry authorities, and they selected their leaders.  The NCC will help the coal industry by coming up with everyday solutions to keep the coal sector in business helping with America’s energy dominance.   The NCC leaders selected are Kyle Haustviet and Joseph Giove both from the DOE, Tom Sarkus from the NETL, James Grech from Peabody Energy, and Jimmy Brock of Core Natural Resources, Inc.  There will be four regional coal workshops coming soon, so they may find out the needs, wants, and what is working for the coal industry.  We will let you know, if we hear anything interesting from the NCC.  If you would like to read more of the Announcement from the U.S. DOE’s Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office, please click the link: Energy Department Convenes First National Coal Council Meeting Under Renewed Charter,Reaffirming Coal’s Role in Unleashing American Energy | Department of Energy.
