You know we like all kinds of
energy, and we like to keep up with the happenings at the Department of Energy. Well, looks like they are investing in innovations
and data for the geothermal industry to help this budding industry.
Did anyone
happen to read the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Geothermal Release on
September 21, 2026, their announcement, “21 Projects Selected to Advance EGS
Field Tests and Exploration Drilling”? In
the announcement, U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Geothermal up to
$99 million to invest in twenty-one
geothermal demonstrations or data gathering to help advance this budding
industry. The projects fall into one
of two categories: field-scale EGS tests or exploration drilling. Five projects will perform real world
demonstration at various sub-surface levels and temperatures to help aid in
further development of geothermal tech.
The projects will be led by Fervo Energy Company, Zanskar Geothermal and
Minerals, AlterG Resources, University of Utah, and Quaise Energy. Sixteen other projects will advance subterranean
information by drilling and gathering the information to help identify new promising
regions for the industry. These projects
will be led by Davinci EP LLC; University of Utah; Zanskar Geothermal and
Minerals; Fervo Energy Company; San IIdefonso Services, LLC; GeoAlaska LLC;
Hexagon Energy LLC; Greenfire Energy Inc.; TLS Geothermics Corp.; LiPower
Geothermal; LLC, INTEK Inc.; Oriah Geothermal, LLC; XGS Energy Inc.; Raser
Power Systems, LLC; 400C Energy Inc., and Invenergy Geothermal Development LLC. The
information these projects gather will be available through the DOE’s Geothermal Data Repository (GDR). We wish these projects luck advancing our
knowledge base of the subterranean, and the innovations needed to advance our
energy needs. We will let you know, if
