The U.S. EPA and DOE have announced federal monies awarded to 43 projects around the U.S. to help with the Emission Reduction Program.

Happy Tuesday!  We hope you have been able to put those special finishing touches on preparing for the big holidays tomorrow! It is hard to believe it will be Christmas and the first evening on Hannukah all in one special day package!

We love a follow-up to our Blog, and we have spoken in past Blogs on the Methane Emissions Reduction Program and the Waste Emissions Charge (WEC), and how there was federal money to help with the transition for small companies and others.  Back in June we spoke on the topic of federal help to reduce methane and the $850 million grant opportunity (Please see our Blog earlier this year on the information on these topics.)  Well, it appears this federal money has been awarded!

Did anyone happen to read the DOE’s Fossil Energy and Carbon Management Newsletter on December 20, 2024, their announcement for, “U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Announces $850 Million to Reduce Methane Pollution from the Oil and Gas Sector”?  In the article, it goes on to speak about the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy (DOE) have revealed 43 recipients for their $850 million (FOA-3256) for their projects which will help with methane emissions by either helping slash, observe, gauge, or calculate emissions for the fossil-fuel industry.  The projects were selected to help them be the frontrunners for how to improve Americans’ lives as well as showing effectiveness in their operations.  The federal money has come from the Inflation Reduction Act.  The 43 projects have included one Tribal Energy group, 11 secondary learning institutions, and 20 small to mid-size companies as well a few recipients were awarded money in multiple categories.

FOA-3256 money was divided into four categories.  Three projects will help small oil and gas operators lessen emissions with off-the-shelf equipment for their low-yield existing wells.  Four projects will help neighborhoods and those near oil and gas facilities with first-hand information and equipment to help observe the facilities.  Five projects will help improve finding and gauging emissions on a local level with special equipment.  The bulk of the money will be going to thirty-one projects who will either use innovative and/or current gear to cut back their emissions.  Some of the projects recipients are from Texas, and they include: Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, University of Texas at Austin, Southern Methodist University, DaphneTech USA, LLC; Baker Hughes Energy Transition LLC, Hyliion Inc., Encino Environmental Services, Envana Software Solutions, Capwell Services, Inc., and Blue Sky Measurements.  We wish all the projects congratulations and good luck fulfilling their requirements for the awards!   If you would like to read more of the News Release from the U.S. EPA, please click the link: US Environmental Protection Agency and US Department of Energy Announce $850M to Reduce Methane Pollution from the Oil and Gas Sector | US EPA .
