Texas will be showcasing geothermal energy in a pilot program by a pair of Austin locals!

Happy Wednesday!

Now we have joined the geothermal world with our alliance with DrillApp Technologies, LLC we are trying to stay in the know of this up-and-coming research in this emerging field. It appears Texas is starting to get on the geothermal energy train!  Back in the middle of August we blogged about Sage Geosystems building its first Texas energy storage system in Christine, Texas near the San Miguel Power Plant, and it is expected to be up and running soon.  Well, looks like Austin Energy will be the next one to try geothermal energy except this time for production.

Did anyone read THE DRILL DOWN Newsletter from the Department of Energy (DOE) and their Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) on December 18, 2024, they had an article link for THINK GEOENERGY’s article, “Austin, Texas to Pilot 5-MW Geothermal Power Project”?  In the article, it speaks in regard to two Austin, Texas companies pairing up for a 5-MW pilot geothermal project to be constructed near Austin Energy’s Nacogdoches biomass facility in Nacogdoches County, Texas.   The two Austin companies are Austin Energy, a public electric utility and Exceed Geo Energy Inc., a geothermal company.  The pilot program which will be another step for Austin Energy’s Resource, Generation and Climate Protection Plan to 2035 is another step toward its goal of being environmentally friendly at the same time as it being cost-effective and dependable.  Its clientele wants it to move into a renewable future nonetheless they want costs to be reasonable and power to be consistent.  The geothermal power project will be producing energy by Exceed Geo Energy’s Advanced Geothermal Engineered System (AGES) and it is expected to be up and running in 2025. The pilot program is Austin Energy’s way of testing the waters for this emerging technology and an attempt to reduce costs at the same time as becoming carbon-free as well as being part of its learning curve!  We wish them luck in advancing geothermal energy and our goal of a sustainable clean future!  If you would like to read more of THINK GEOENERGY’s article, please click the link: Austin, Texas to pilot 5-MW geothermal power project.
