Three Geothermal Energy Projects on the west coast have been awarded up to $60 million from the DOE.

Happy Wednesday!  Happy Valentine’s Day!  We hope it has been a sweet, filled day!

Now we have joined the geothermal world with our alliance with DrillApp Technologies, LLC we are trying to stay in the know of this up-and-coming research in this emerging field.

Did anyone see or hear about the announcement from the Department of Energy (DOE) and their Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) on February 13, 2024, they announced, “Biden-Harris Administration Invests $60 Million to Expand Clean, Renewable Geothermal Energy - President Biden’s Investing in America Agenda Will Fund Three Projects to Scale Enhanced Geothermal Systems, Which Have Potential to Deliver Renewable Geothermal Energy to Power the Equivalent of 65 Million U.S. Homes”?  In the article, it speaks about how the DOE has chosen three geothermal projects on the west coast to show enhanced geothermal systems (ESG) are part of our clean energy future, and they have the possibility to receive up to $60 million apiece.  The monies will be funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.  These ESG projects will be to scale and will use the Earth’s crust and its heat to power our modern world, and they will show it is cost-effective, clean energy, and may be commercialized.

The companies up for the awarded DOE funds are Chevron New Energies, Fervo Energy, and Mazama Energy.  Chevron New Energies’ project will be in Sonoma County in northern California, and their pilot program will use revolutionary drilling and alternative methods which will be close to an already used geothermal field.  Fervo Energy’s demonstration project will be in Milford Renewable Energy Corridor in Utah and adjoining to the DOE’s Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy (FORGE), and their goal will be to make at a minimum of 8 megawatts of power at each of its wells in a new area with no existing geothermal field.  The third and final project is from Mazama Energy, and they will use a volcano in Oregon for its pilot project to prove for the first time ever ESG will be able to use temperatures above 375°.   These three projects will be fueling the future of the what’s next in geothermal on our way to a zero-emission future and an electrified world!  Stay tuned for the announcement from the DOE on geothermal projects on the east coast.
