API filed a lawsuit against the BOEM for their National OCS Oil and Gas Leasing Program for 2024 – 2029 and its lack of leasing auctions!

Happy Tuesday! Happy Galentine’s Day!  We hope you are enjoying the lovely, sunny day!

Did anyone happen to read the Oil & Gas Journal’s Daily Update Newsletter on February 13, 2024, their article titled, “API challenges Biden administration’s 5-year OSC lease program in court”?  In the article, it spoke in regard to U.S. Department of Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and their National Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program for 2024 thru 2029 which was announced at the end of 2023 is being challenged by the American Petroleum Institute (API) in the US District Court of Appeals DC Circuit.  The BOEM’s program announced the fewest oil and gas leasing program auctions during the 5-year period with none this year and only enough to honor the agreement in the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act.  API has approached the court to evaluate the new oil and gas leasing program against past programs and claims the new terms are 500 days late to make such changes.  If you would like to read more of the Oil & Gas Journal’s article, please click the link:   API challenges Biden administration’s 5-year OCS lease program in court | Oil & Gas Journal (ogj.com).
