BOEM’s Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 261 is a done deal!

Did anyone happen to hear the announcement the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) made this afternoon, December 20, 2023, the announcement titled, “Oil and Gas Lease Sale 261 Results Announced”?  The BOEM announced today the results for the Gulf of Mexico Oil and Gas Lease Sale 261 which was ordered by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit to be completed by December 22, 2023.  The Gulf of Mexico sale had 1.7 million acres available which was equal to 311 tracts in federal waters, and the sale generated $382,168,507.  There were 352 bids placed for Lease Sale 261 from different 26 companies which totaled $441,896,332. The major oil companies including Chevron U.S.A., BP Exploration, and Shell Offshore placed bids.  In addition, companies like Anadarko US Offshore, Talos Energy Offshore, and Hess Corporation placed bids, too.  The Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 261 happened because of the Inflation Reduction Act and there won’t be another oil and gas lease sale until 2025.  If you would like to read more of the BOEM’s announcement, please click the link: Gulf of Mexico Oil and Gas Lease Sale 261 Results Announced | Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (boem.gov).
