City of Midland challenging wastewater permits?

Happy Wednesday!

Did anyone happen to read The Houston Chronicle’s Business Section on November 27, 2023, their article titled, “Midland fights permits on oil, gas wastewater”?  The article speaks on how the city of Midland sought approval from Texas Railroad Commission to challenge drilling permits, and now they are challenging wastewater disposal wells.  City of Midland is challenging a Houston company, Pilot Water Solutions, to stop them from having five disposal wells bordering the T-Bar Ranch an area where 30% of city’s drinking water is.   The city knows not all operations and logistics are equal in constructing disposal wells and with the proximity to the city’s water they aren’t taking any risks with such an important and valuable commodity in West Texas.  Midland has learned from the past and knows water can be scarce because in 2011 the reservoirs were lower than low, and they had to apply water restrictions.  In 2013, the city had completed building a $200-million water pipeline which tapped into the T-Bar Ranch for emergency city water. The administrative hearing is scheduled with two Railroad Commission administrative judges for January 8 – 11, 2024, the city of Midland will finally have their voices heard on why the permits should be modified or canceled.  If you would like to read more of The Houston Chronicle’s article, please click the link: Midland, oil capital of Texas, challenges water drilling permits (houstonchronicle.com).
