Another setback for Enbridge’s Line 5 Pipeline.

Happy Monday!  Welcome back to another week of ESC News Blog!  We hope you had an enjoyable weekend! Let’s get started!

You know we love an update to previous blogs, and we have been keeping tabs on Enbridge’s Line 5 for a several years, and this important pipeline is in the news again. Well, it looks like the project is having another setback.

Did anyone see the Associated Press’s AP Afternoon Wire Newsletter on August 1, 2026, their article titled, “Michigan Supreme Court rejects permit for Enbridge oil pipeline under Great Lakes”?  In the article, it speaks on how last week the Michigan Supreme Court rejected Enbridge’s Line 5 pipeline permit from the Michigan Public Service Commission, which was approved back at the end 2023, (See our Blog in early December 2023 for details), and they need to reconsider how this tunnel will prolong the life of the pipeline and what effects it will have on environment.  Enbridge’s pipeline is a septuagenarian who connects Ontario Canada with Northwest Wisconsin, and it has a segment called Line 5 which runs under the Straits of Mackinac.   Many years ago, an anchor almost damaged Line 5 which runs across the floor bed, hence Enbridge decided they should make a tunnel under the straits to protect the four-mile pipeline segment.  Line 5 has been under fire ever since. We will try and keep you informed on anything else we hear on this important pipeline.  If you would like to read more of the article from the Associated Press, please click the link: Enbridge pipeline tunnel under Great Lakes rejected by Michigan court | AP News.
