CTV JV’s CCS project in California is operational.

Happy Wednesday!

Well, we hope you have been able to keep out of the rain today.

Did anyone happen to read the Oil & Gas Journal’s OGJ Daily Update Newsletter on May 26, 2026, their article titled, “CRC starts first CO2 injection at state’s inaugural CCS project”?  In the article, it speaks on how California Resources Corp. (CRC) is operational for its carbon capture and storage (CCS) joint venture Carbon TerraVault (CTV JV) in California; its partner is Brookfield.  CRC injected their first carbon dioxide (CO2) into an injection well at their Carbon TerraVault I (CTVI) project in Kern County, California.  CRC is injecting CO2 into depleted oil and gas reservoir (26R) at their Elk Hills Field approximately one mile beneath the surface.  CTV JV has CTVI which includes two exhausted reservoirs 26R and A1-A2, and they have a permit for a Class VI Well at 26R, and they obtain their CO2 from CRC’s cryogenic gas plant. CTVI project is expected to store almost 40 million tonnes of CO2. CRC has applied for eight more Class VI permits, and they are expecting to store approximately 352 million tonnes of CO2.  We will let you know, if we hear anything else on any other CCS projects around the country!  If you would like to read more of the Oil & Gas Journal’s article, please click the link:   CRC starts first CO2 injection at state’s inaugural CCS project | Oil & Gas Journal.

Don’t forget to check out our ESC website or contact us via the email in the Blog, if you have a hydrocarbon liquids project you would like to see get off the ground or you would like to see what’s under your feet to help with your emissions!

We hope you have a wonderful evening and a productive week!  Keep dry!
