Two NPC studies will guide the DOE and other agencies on how to improve the regulatory and permitting system, so American energy will be more reliable for communities and businesses as well as faster and cheaper.

Happy Wednesday! Hope you are keeping warm and dry this evening.

Well, we expected to hear possible changes might be coming to the U.S. Department of Energy, and after hearing FERC published a Notice of Inquiry on possible blanket certificates for natural gas last week, we weren’t surprised by the newsletter we received.

Did anyone happen to read the DOE’s Fossil Energy Newsletter on December 3, 2025, their announcement for, “Energy Department Releases National Petroleum Council Recommendations to Accelerate Permitting Reform and Strengthen U.S. Energy Infrastructure”?  In the announcement, it goes on to speak of how the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) published two studies from the National Petroleum Council (NPC) which show the path the U.S. needs to innovate the energy industry and its substructure as to simplify federal permitting, eliminate burdensome regulation, and improve timelines. The NPC studies in a nutshell suggest the federal government needs to make less burdensome permitting and smart practices as well as keeping strict timelines, and private industry needs to invest in expanding pipelines and substructure as well as making improvements to current substructure.   The studies show we aren’t prepared for the demand for energy in the coming years and how they aren’t working together to be more dependable.  These two studies believe this is the key for making a dependable and durable system as well as keeping prices reasonable for American communities and businesses, and how they need to proceed to help American communities as well as help America attain energy dominance.  The NPC’s studies with its suggestions will guide the DOE and other agencies with developing smart practices, improve permitting timelines to help get the energy industry back on track with expansion as well as make practical timelines for projects. We will let you know, if we hear anything else on what helpful changes these studies bring to the energy industry.  If you would like to read more of the Announcement from the U.S. DOE, please click the link: Energy Department Releases National Petroleum Council Recommendations to AcceleratePermitting Reform and Strengthen U.S. Energy Infrastructure | Department ofEnergy
