Is FERC having a change of heart for LNG plants modifications and expansions and possibly reducing paperwork?

Happy Tuesday!  Hope you were able to keep warm, today.

Did anyone happen to read the Oil & Gas Journal’s OGJ Daily Update Newsletter on November 26, 2025, their article titled, “FERC grants extension to Sempra’s Cameron LNG, explores certain blanket authorizations for LNG plants”?  In the article, it speaks on how in November the U.S. Federal Energy Regulation Commission (FERC) placed a Notice of Inquiry (NOI) in the Federal Register to get feedback on if they should create a blanket certificate program for specific activities at LNG plants like they have for interstate pipelines.  The activities which would most likely be under this certificate program would possibly include some modifications and expansions which would reduce time wasted on waiting for federal approval.  FERC is considering the change due to advances in innovation and expertise in the LNG industry.  The comment period is 60 days on the NOI.

On another note, Sempra Infrastructure’s Cameron LNG project in Louisiana received a five-year postponement for their start date for operation which now will be March 16, 2033.  Sempra needed guarantees for their lenders of their federal approvals, so they may be able to make a final investment decision.    We will let you know, if we hear any other updates on FERC’s decision to proceed with LNG blanket authorizations!  If you would like to read more of the Oil & Gas Journal’s article, please click the link:   FERC grants extension to Sempra's Cameron LNG, explores certain blanket authorizations for LNG plants | Oil & Gas Journal.
