Happy Monday and welcome back to another week of ESC News Blog.
Did anyone happen
to see The Houston Chronicle’s Business Section on September 1, 2023, their
article titled, “Sempra eyes e-gas facility project on the Gulf Coast”? In the article, it speaks about the announcement
Sempra made on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, in which its Sempra Infrastructure is teaming up with a group of Japanese companies including
Mitsubishi Corp., and three Japanese gas utilities: Tokyo Gas Co., Osaka Gas
Co., and Toho Gas Co. to decide, if they should build an e-natural gas or synthetic
natural gas facility along the Gulf Coast.
The facility would mix renewable hydrogen and carbon captured CO2 to
make 130 million tons of e-natural gas. With
the growing number of proposed or approved direct air capture plants popping up
along the Gulf Coast this is something thing to do with the captured CO2 besides
leaving it underground, and it is a type of carbon recycling. The e-natural gas facility would be able to
access the existing gas pipelines and processing facilities webbed throughout
the Gulf Coast and have easy access to the existing hydrogen facilities and
the possible hydrogen hubs which are in the works in this region of the Gulf. The e-natural gas would then be transported to
Sempra’s Cameron LNG facility to be made into liquified e-natural gas and
exported to Japan. If you
