Happy Thursday!
Did anyone hear that the Port of Brownsville announced
Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Corporation received their Notice to Proceed for
Phase 1 on the Brazos Island Harbor (BIH) Channel Improvement Project in late
July? Great Lakes Dredge and Dock
Corporation will begin the channels deepening along the 17-mile Brownsville
ship channel which will be dredged from 42 to 52 feet later this year. The 2 phase BIH project will be paid for through
the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) Public-Private Partnership (P3) which
includes the Port of Brownsville, NextDecade and other stakeholders. NextDecade will be paying for Phase 1 of the
BHI project which includes dredging from the mouth of the ship channel to their
western boundary of the leased site. In
addition, NextDecade will be establishing two ship berths and a turning basin
for its Rio Grande LNG facility. Phase 2
improvements include dredging from the turning basin to NextDecade’s Rio Grande
LNG facility. Phase 2 will be partially
paid for by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act Appropriations Law which $68 million has been assigned
for the project. This is great news for
the Port of Brownsville and its future with hosting large vessels. If you
