Did anyone
happen to read the Oil & Gas Journal’s OGJ Daily Update Newsletter on
July 20, 2026, their article titled, “FERC advances Gulf South, Kinder Morgan,
and MVP gas projects”? The article goes
on to speak on several foundational U.S. natural gas projects on the Gulf Coast,
as well as the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic the U. S. Federal Energy Regulatory
Commission (FERC) has on their plates.
The Gulf Coast
project is a pipeline system proposed by Gulf South Pipeline Co. LLC called, “Texas
Gateway Project.” This project has been chosen to be on FERC’s new FAST-41
permitting program which would reduce federal review from 18-25 months down to
12 to 14 months. The Texas Gateway
Project is expected to link East Texas natural gas sources with facilities and
plants on the Louisiana Gulf Coast, and the project would build over 150 miles
of 36-in. and 42-in. OD pipeline expanding from Carthage, Texas to the Gillis
Hub in Northwest Louisiana, and adding a new compressor station in East Texas
as well as making changes to a couple of existing compressor stations. Texas Gateway
Project is expected to be operational by early 2028.
The two projects
in the Southeast FERC are close to approving is Kinder Morgan Inc.’s South
System Expansion 4 (SSE4) and Mississippi Crossing (MSX) both have had their Final
Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) completed. Elba Express Co. and Southern Natural Gas Co.’s
SSE4 project is a proposed 280-mile pipeline looping beside the SNG system and 13
compressor stations would have improvements done along the route. The project’s Phase 1 is expected operational
in the end of 2028, and Phase 2 would be operational a year later. Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co.’s MSX project is
over 200 miles of new 36-in and 42-in OD pipeline linking Washington County,
Mississippi to Choctaw County, Alabama, as well as adding several new
compressor stations, and the project would be expected to be operational before
mid-2028.
The Mid-Atlantic
project has been given permission to start building by FERC at the end of June. Mountain Valley Pipeline LLC’s (MVP) Southgate
Expansion project in North Carolina was approved following the US Court of Appeals
for the Fourth Circuit’s final judgement.
The Mountain Valley Expansion Pipeline would extend the existing pipeline
for over 31 miles into South Central North Carolina and is expected to be
operational in 2028.
