Happy Monday and welcome back to another week of ESC News Blog.
Did anyone
happen to read the Oil & Gas Journal’s OGJ Daily Update Newsletter on
April 6, 2026, their article titled, “Interior Department to merge offshore oil
and gas regulatory agencies”? In the
article, it speaks on how last week the US Department of Interior announced they
are re-combining their US Bureau of Energy Management (BOEM) and Bureau of
Safety and Environmental Enforcement (SBEE) to a new agency called, “Marine
Minerals Administration.” The U.S.
Marine Mineral Administration will be in charge of offshore oil and natural gas
leasing as well as permitting, assessments, and supervision of the offshore
industry. In the early 2010s, the two were divided
because of an offshore incident on Deepwater Horizon. The move now is to return
to a sensible way of supervision and oversight as well as modernize the
agencies. We wish the US Marine Minerals
Administration luck reimaging its new updated purpose. We will let you know, if we hear anything
else! If you would like to read more of
