Offshore oil and gas lease sale in Alaska's Cook Inlet was a bust!

Happy Thursday!

We promised when we heard what happens in the first BBC1 lease sale we would let you know. (Check it out our blog in early February.)  Did anyone happen to read the Oil & Gas Journal’s OGJ Daily Update Newsletter on March 5, 2026, they had an article titled, “Federal government, Alaska host lackluster Cook Inlet lease sale”?  In the article, it speaks on how Department of Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) had their first Cook Inlet Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Lease Sale 1 (BBC1) Lease Sale and there were no bids.  This was the first sale out of six mandated by One Big Beautiful Bill Act.  The region the BOEM was offering leases on were in the northern area of Cook Inlet Planning Area which included just under one million acres or 216 blocks.  The State of Alaska had a concurrent lease sale for a bit less than 3 million acres, and they only received one bid under value for 20-acres. Appears not much interest in Alaska for drilling currently, maybe the next one will go better.  If we hear anything else from the BOEM we will let you know.  If you would like to read more of Oil and Gas Journal’s article, please click the link:   Federal government, Alaska host lackluster Cook Inlet lease sales | Oil & Gas Journal,
