Happy Thursday!
We haven’t heard much on green
hydrogen nonetheless as other renewables like solar and wind are having hard
times from what we are reading; we heard a glimmer of something on it. Green hydrogen seems to be moving slowly
forward, even if we haven’t heard much on the hydrogen hubs around the
country. Here’s what we found on the
green hydrogen and in all places Texas, then again, the Gulf Coast has many blue
hydrogen facilities, so why not.
Did anyone
happen to read the Energy Connects Newsletter on May 1, 2025, they had reprinted
an article from Bloomberg titled, “Why the green hydrogen industry is flocking
to Texas”? In the article, it speaks on
how the green hydrogen industry has found inexpensive clean energy in
Texas. With the new administration renewables
have been cast aside for reliable energy sources like natural gas and coal, and
the federal tax credits and the U.S. Department of Energy Clean Energy
Demonstration Office’s (OCED) H2Hubs Program have been eerily quiet. Without the help from the U.S. Federal government
using clean energy and water the cost to make green hydrogen is $8 to $9 per
kilogram which is drastically more than non-renewable fuel energy sources, nonetheless
companies have been finding their way to Texas where clean energy has set up shop. Plug Power Inc. with a loan from the Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office
has started to set up shop in Graham, Texas near a wind farm and they are
constructing one of their liquid hydrogen plants in a community which will use
their technology. Once completed it is
expected to produce 45 tons a day. The loan
they received will be used to build up to five more plants around the country. Another company calling Texas home will be Verdagy Inc.
They will be constructing a 60-megawatt green hydrogen project which
will use their technology, and once completed they are expecting to make 9,000
tons a year and the facility will run 24 hours a day and will take advantage of
Texas’ cheap clean energy, too. These
two companies believe with the cheap clean energy they will be able to bring
the costs down. Well, we wish these two companies
luck bringing their technology and visions to Texas. If you would like to read more of the
