Happy Tuesday! We hope you have been keeping dry from the rain Francine has brought to the area!
Did anyone happen to read the
Oil & Gas Journal’s Daily Update Newsletter on September 6, 2024, they
had an article titled, “DOE: Pause on US LNG export permits remains despite New
Fortress authorization.” The article is
on how the US Department of Energy (DOE) has recently approved New Fortress Energy Inc. (NFE) to sell abroad no more than 1.4 million
tonnes/year of US produced liquid natural gas (LNG) to non-FTA countries for a
term no more than five years. The DOE’s approval had increased their prior
amount NFE was allowed to sell to non-FTA countries of US LNG. Offshore from Altamira, Mexico is where NFE
floating LNG platform is located; it is a partnership with Mexico’s CFE, so
they needed approval to export US LNG. The
DOE had temporarily froze LNG export approvals in January 2024, to update the
way they evaluate the procedure for approval of applications, but a federal
judge stopped their freeze in July. Currently,
there are 10 future LNG terminals in the works who have their export approvals.
We
will keep you posted on any more we hear about these court proceedings. If you would like more information on this
