Happy Tuesday! We hope you are keeping cool during the dog days of summer!
We wrote in our Blog regarding
the proposed Project 11 user fee back in Mid-May 2024, and now the next step in
the making of the ordinance to help fund Project 11 has made it to our
doorstep!
Did anyone see the Greater Houston Port Bureau’s (GHPB)
Newsletter on August 15, 2024, they mention an announcement from the Port
of Houston Authority titled, “Port Houston Holds Special Port Commission Public
Meeting to Discuss Project 11 User Fee”? The
announcement is in regard to a Notice from the Port of Houston Authority in
regard to a Special Public Meeting the Port Commission had on August 8, 2024, on
which they showed a draft of the Project 11 user fee ordinance, and let the
public make comments on it. The Port of
Houston Authority proposed channel user fee will be used to help pay the local
costs of the Houston Ship Channel Expansion – Project 11. The anticipated user fee is expected to go
into effect in 2025, and the fee will cease when costs are recouped or around
30 years. The Port Commission will reflect
on the comments from the public in the final version of the Project 11 user fee
ordinance, and it may be up for a vote as early as the next meeting, which is
scheduled on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
