Happy Two-for-Tuesday!
Did anyone happen to see The Houston Chronicle’s Texas Inc. Section on September 10, 2023, they reprinted an article from the Associated Press titled, “Off-grid power ramps up below Sahara as Africa Climate Summit promotes solar”? In the article, it goes on to speak about the African Climate Summit which is happening in Nairobi this week, and they are all about renewable solar energy and its reliability, lower costs, and it being a clean energy. Africa and especially the Sub-Sahara have an abundance of sun year-round this is why the mini grids work well there. The electric grid in many African nations is very unreliable or some communities aren’t even connected, but mini grids are increasing speed being installed in many African countries. The African people and businesses are buying into the energy source because it is reliable, clean, and has a lower cost after the initial investment which are re-cooped after four-years. In recent times, its mini grids have grown from 500 to between 2000 to 3000 now. Governments are not necessarily funding the growth many solar companies are offering installment plans for up to 18-months, and businesses, homeowners and communities are buying into the installment plans in hopes of either getting reliable power or reducing costs. Solar energy has allowed a freedom from the grid that people and businesses have never had before, and it only has signs of growing.
