Increased efficiency and reduce your emissions by using freight rail?

Happy Tuesday!

Did anyone see the Tank News International’s Newsletter on August 17, 2023, their article titled, “Rail freight on track for record volumes”?  In the article, it speaks about efficiency and low emissions of railroads.  The Association of American Railroads admits for every gallon of fuel a freight train uses it averages 500 miles on it.  In July, the Environmental Protection Agency endorsed freight rail as a way to help with the climate change because it only makes about 0.5 percent of the U.S. total emissions and 1.7 percent of the transportation caused greenhouse gases (GHG).  One terminal company has stepped up, APM Terminals.   APM Terminals have increased the number of trains it uses in India which gets trucks of the roads and reduces emissions from them.  In the U.S., APM Terminal’s Mobile Alabama location announced an expansion by investing $60 million to expand their rail capabilities to help reduce emissions and their carbon footprint for their customers.  In Europe, their Gothenburg location is following suit of handling more trains.  Freight trains are an effective way to get commodities moving, reduce traffic, and reduce emissions.
