Eating french fries help make biodiesel? Well in the Miami area it sure might!

Happy Wednesday!  We hope everyone had a good July 4th holiday.

Did anyone read The Houston Chronicle’s Texas Inc. Section on Sunday, July 2, 2023, they reprinted an article from the Miami Herald titled, “Grease at Miami eateries turned into biodiesel fuel”?  In the article, it speaks about the how there are hundreds of franchises of Filta around the world, and how they are helping with alternative energy solutions.  There are three local Filtas which go to many commercial kitchens in restaurants, businesses, universities, and medical facilities in the Miami-Dade County area which then clean their oil fryers by filtering, and when it cannot be filtered any further removes it, so it can be recycled in biodiesel.   The local area Filtas then ship the used cooking oil to Louisiana fuel refiner for processing.  The cooking oil can then be used in biodiesel and sustainable jet fuel.  The biodiesel is mixed with standard diesel to make a low-carbon fuel.  Filta is one of many companies which collects cooking oil for this purpose, and this is one way for helping reduce emissions in our journey to net-zero emissions.   If you would like to read more of the article from the Miami Herald for free on Yahoo!News, please click the link: Grease frying food at Miami eateries recycled into biodiesel fuel to slow climate change (yahoo.com).
