Happy Two-for-Tuesday!
I’m playing catch up in my email,
and I read something interesting which piqued my curiosity, so I went searching
for the article. Did anyone read from The
Houston Chronicle in the Fuel Fix section around June 1, 2023, their
article titled, “LyondellBasell plans Channelview pilot of electric furnace
to cut greenhouse gases”? In the
article it speaks about how LyondellBasell,
Chevron Phillips Chemical and Technip Energies are teaming up to design, build,
and operate a pilot project unit at LyondellBasell’s Channelview facility. They are going to use an electric furnace and
renewable electricity to help with the chemical reaction to break apart
hydrocarbons, if the furnace works it will help reduce emissions by almost ninety
percent compared to current furnaces.
This would go a long way to helping clean up emissions in facilities in
the petrochemical industry. If you would
like to read more of the article from The Houston Chronicle about electric
furnace, please click the link: LyondellBasell plans Channelview pilot of electric furnace (houstonchronicle.com).
