Happy Thursday!
We attended the Greater
Houston Port Bureau’s Commerce Club Monthly Luncheon at the Houston
Marriott South at Hobby Airport today.
It was an interesting luncheon ever since it was the Retirement
Celebration or Roast for Captain Bill Diehl, President of GHPB. It was a nice affair with some good jokes and
some fun stories about Captain Diehl. Bernt
Netland, the Chairman of the Board of the Greater Houston Port Bureau gave
a nice farewell speech in it he gave credit to Captain Diehl for increasing
membership during his thirteen-year tenure from 95 company memberships to
around 250 currently. Many of the speakers had to roast the Captain a little. They
all spoke of his accomplishments including the state-of-the-art real-time vessel
tracking system called PilotTracker, and all his advocacy for dredging, Project
11, and protecting the coast. They spoke of the community he made with the GHPB
team and the membership companies, and all he did for the ports in the area. Finally, Captain Diehl spoke of the great
team that only made him look better. Nonetheless
it was time to sail off into the sunset which is funny his first trip in
retirement in going to be sailing the coast of Croatia with some of his family.
We here at ESC, “Wish Captain Deihl a Happy
Second Retirement!” We hope it sticks this time, and we will surely miss you
seeing you up on the podium every month! If you would like to learn more of about
